This is ominous....
A four-member team of UN security advisors may be heading to Iraq soon. The move would set in motion the possible eventual return of International UN staffers to Baghdad. The team will be assessing the safety conditions in the country. International UN representatives were pulled out of the country after an August 19th bombing that killed 22 people, including the UN mission chief in Iraq. Secretary General Kofi Annan has been unwilling to send staffers back to the country, even as the U.S. has insisted it is safe to do so. Annan will meet with members of the Iraqi Governing Council and the U.S.-led coalition next Monday to discuss what role the UN will play in Iraq.
Does this mean that Iraq is getting so safe even the U.N. feels comfortable about returning? Something smells fishy.
