The Dalai Lama later said he had no problem with the Vatican's attitude.

"That's the right description. It was a short visit," he said.

The Vatican has difficult ties with Beijing. Chinese Catholics are not allowed to recognise the Pope's authority and must join a state-backed "patriotic church".

Wow!!! What a unique idea. Instead of killing everyone, why not get together and talk religion. We could work out our difference and find common ground. What an amazing idea. It makes me think. What would God rather see, people killing others or getting along?

Why I don't shop today

I thought about shopping today just to spend money on "Buy Nothing Day". I WILL be a consumer today but I won't shop with the masses today. Why?

A Volusia County, Florida, woman is hospitalized this afternoon after she was trampled by a crowd while Christmas shopping. The woman was in the checkout line at the Wal-Mart store in Orange City when a large crowd came in and knocked her down. She couldn't get up and was badly hurt. She was airlifted to the hospital and had a seizure after the incident. Store workers say they were surprised at the aggressiveness of the crowd.

Egad!

Hey Santa, stick to reindeer

Here's how to scar kids for life during the Christmas Season...

Santa Claus narrowly escaped serious injury this morning when he arrived at a Houston shopping mall. The jolly old elf arrived at the mall by parachute before a crowd of eager young children, but high winds caused Santa's approach and landing to be more than he bargained for. Santa landed on his bottom, then flipped a couple of times before ending up lying on his back. He then jumped up and began greeting the kids, who were anxious to give him their holiday wish lists.

I can hear it now.

"Hey Mommy where's Santa?"

"He's right above you sweetie."

"Why is he flipping and rolling around on the ground? Is he dead?"

"umm, no honey he's just resting...Have I ever told you about the Hannukah Fairy?"

I'm embarrassed for my colleagues...

President Bush's surprise Thanksgiving Day visit to Baghdad may have been a big hit with U.S. troops stationed there, whose morale skyrocketed from the visit. But within hours reporters were grousing that the White House "lied" to them to keep the mission secret.

"There is the small but inconvenient fact that the White House lied to the press," Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz griped on CNN – even before Air Force One had returned to U.S. airspace.

Kurtz complained that he and other reporters had been expressly told that Bush would be eating Thanksgiving dinner at his Crawford, Texas, ranch. "They even put out the menu – free range turkey, if you're interested," he noted.

"A lot of the journalists I've talked to today are upset that this kind of deception was engaged in, not for military secrecy – although clearly there was a security aspect – but to set up this grand turkey photo-op for the president."

Let's see. Why would President Bush keep a visit to a war zone quiet....especially from the notoriously leaky press corps? Could it be to make sure THE ENEMY DIDN'T KNOW?

Geez, to some of these people, the president would even lie about his own name. Stop the hysterics!

At least one person at CNN got it right.

But even CNN anchor Carol Lin seemed to have trouble understanding why Kurtz & Co. were bent out of shape.

"Well, if you have full access, Howard – I mean, what's the downside, really?" Lin asked. "What's the dark side of a trip like this? It was great for troop morale. It made pretty pictures. It made people feel good on an American holiday."

It's not looking good for my beloved Colorado Buffs against the Nebraska Cornhuskers...But there's always this to make me cheer up...

A doctor in North Carolina has created a device that triggers an orgasm. In order for it work electrodes are inserted into a person's spine and they are then connected to a pacemaker-size machine implanted under the skin to heighten their sexual pleasure. The machine has been patented and the Food and Drug Administration has signed off on clinical trials. About the only thing missing now is test subjects.

I'm just not sure why their having a tough time finding volunteers.

Cal Ripken - HERO

He was one of the classiest baseball players ever. Now he one of the classiest people ever. Why?

Cal Ripken Jr. and his family had an unexpected surprise visitor at their Baltimore-area home for Thanksgiving. A naked man arrived at Ripken's house saying he had been shot. Twenty-year-old Brian Robins says he was walking down the street last night when he was abducted by three men. Robins said the suspects made him strip down and get in the trunk of the vehicle when he could not come up with any money for his abductors. He said they let him go in a field near the Ripken house after shooting him. Ripken called 911, and Robins is due to be released from a hospital later today.

Plenty of people would just let the guy stay outside, but Cal is a true hero. I wish more people were like Ripken.

Karaoke Gone Bad...Really Bad

You know your not a good singer when........

Some advice for the aspiring karaoke singer -- stop singing when it's so bad people start throwing things at you and rush the stage. It's advice that apparently wasn't taken by a 20-year-old woman in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The woman was reportedly so off-key that witnesses say it sparked an audience revolt. When the woman refused to stop singing, someone threw a beer at her and hit her. But, the aspiring musical diva was undeterred. Finally, an annoyed patron jumped on stage and punched the woman in the face. That's when the music stopped and a melee erupted that eventually spilled outside the establishment. Two arrests were made once officers sorted out the mess.

Just a thought. When people start throwing things at you during karaoke...GET OFF THE STAGE!

Well I'm off for a few days

I got the flu and it's Thanksgiving...hey that sounds like a country song. But any-who, I'm taking the rest of today and Thursday off. I will blog lightly on Friday, but my attention will be on Colorado/Nebraska.

By the way, we all know what the "N" stands for on the Nebraska helmet?

That's right...it stands for (k)nowledge!

Reason for possible light blogging

I will try to keep blogging, but I feel under the weather. The RMN is writing me a note....

More than 1,100 flu cases were confirmed between Thursday and noon Monday, a modern one-week record in Colorado that made the start of the holiday season a real turkey.

The state hasn't seen an explosion like this in the five years it has kept reliable flu statistics, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Make that 1,100 + Me.
