Martha Stewart's assistant told the court today her boss changed a telephone message from her stockbroker to cover up an insider tip. Ann Armstrong said Stewart altered a December 27th, 2001 phone message that initially read, quote, "Peter Bacanovic thinks ImClone is going to start trading downward.'' Armstrong says Stewart tapped into a computerized telephone log and altered the message to, quote, "Peter Bacanovic re ImClone.'' She said Stewart then had a change of heart and told Armstrong to change the message back to its original wording.
