"Oral sex can lead to oral tumors." That's the research reported in "New Scientist" magazine. The study seems to confirm research that found a sexually transmitted infection tied to cervical cancer is linked to mouth tumors. The experts believe oral sex can lead to mouth infections in both men and women. However, researchers say the risk of oral sex leading to mouth cancer is small. They point out heavy drinking and smoking pose a greater risk of getting the disease. The study looked at more than three thousand healthy and sick subjects.

A Good Idea

Could the Hummer be the "official" SUV of Los Angeles? A City Council Committee is kicking around the idea of following cities such as New York and San Diego by introducing corporate sponsorship opportunities as a way to raise money. The "Los Angeles Times" reports Councilman Eric Garcetti has asked a graduate class at the University of Southern California to help explore opportunities and find out what other cities are doing with corporate tie-ins. One councilman envisions an official motorcycle of the LAPD.

Not a bad way to create income without raising taxes. I'm sure the proposal will cause outrage and a lawsuit of two.

More Intolerance

A Washington, DC theater manager is being threatened over a controversial film on the life of Christ. Jill Bernstein manages the Avalon Theatre in Northwest Washington. She says a man called her to say she'd "regret" showing "The Passion of the Christ." The Mel Gibson film opens nationwide today. For weeks, the movie has been sparking widespread debate. Some claim the movie unfairly depicts Jews as being responsible for Jesus' death, but many Christians say the movie is powerful and opens channels for dialogue.

It's amazing how many times "intolerant" Christians get death threats. I'm sure it's probably the Christians' fault anyway for believing in something.

How NOT To Make a Good Impression

A Virginia woman is facing more than three years in prison for attacking her former boyfriend in a courtroom with a pair of scissors. The incident took place a little over a year ago when 23-year-old Falah Joe was attending the sentencing of her former boyfriend in DC Superior Court. The former couple has a child together and has had problems in the past. During the sentencing, she came at him with the scissors while cursing. A Deputy U.S. Marshal stepped in-between the two and was able to subdue the woman and she was sentenced this week to 37 months behind bars. He suffered cuts and bruises as a result.

What a way to get the judge on your good side.

Intolerence

So I'm having a political discussion with a friend when, after me refuting and debating her arguments with other information and facts, she says "I just don't understand how you can support the President."

Excuse Me?

Haven't I just sat here and explained to you why I do?

But it's a phrase that's been thrown about a lot by Democrats and "Independants" who've never voted Republican in their lives, lately. And I'm sick of it.

I'm sorry you "don't understand". I'm sorry your so close-minded that you can't look at other people's point of view and at least understand that they didn't just pull that position out of thin air. I'm sorry that you have so little thinking ability that an opposing position to yours sends you into an intellectual fog. I'm sorry that you are so dumb, that visions you obviously can't have overwork your simple brain sinapses to the point of blackout.

But you know what? It's not my problem

It's not my problem that "you can't understand" differing opinions. That anything not in your "comfort zone" gives you such fright that you are "paralyzed with dumb". It's time to deal. People are different. I spent my whole time growing up formulating my opinions with deep reflection and study. I grew my positions out of talking with others who didn't share my views. It made me both more tolerant, and more comfortable that my beliefs were correct...were Right.

It's time for you to do the same, because if you "just can't understand", then you are an intolerant ignoramous who doesn't deserve any more of my precious time.

Oh the Irony

As professors at the University of Colorado start clamoring for the abolishment of "big time" football at their school, I find it funny that this is an issue. 9News.

University of Colorado President Elizabeth Hoffman says the recruiting allegations at CU Boulder are not her only concern. She's trying to head off another major crisis that she says will affect the future of the university.

During a speech to the City Club of Denver Tuesday afternoon, Hoffman said in no uncertain terms that by the end of this decade, there will be no money left for higher education in the state of Colorado. She says that's because Amendment 23 and the Taxpayer Bill of Rights severely limit how much money goes to Colorado’s colleges and universities.

Unless lawmakers change those constitutional amendments, higher education will only get $83 million from the state by the year 2009 versus the $686 million they get now. To Hoffman, that's just as big of a worry as resolving the ongoing sex scandal.

Well now....It seems that "big time" sports may be needed at CU after all. And no it's not the Taxpayer Bill of Rights that's the problem. It's the vast overspending of money that's not theirs that's the problem.

So you professors, who would look at a 50% or worse pay cut if "big time" sports were disbanded, how evil is that athletic department again?

I thought so.

Excuse Me While I Vent!!!!

O.K. you Dems out there. You wanna know what my problem with you is? Right here!!! This story came across today on 9News.

The debate over same-sex marriage has apparently lead one person to lead an effort to recall Denver’s mayor. The Denver Post is reporting that a city resident has notified leads that he plans to try to recall Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. Joel Levitt, a veterans' representative in the Denver Mayor's Office of Workforce Development, says he plans to collect signatures for a recall. He says he wants to punish Hickenlooper for taking a stand against the constitutional amendment idea to prohibit same-sex marriage. While Hickenlooper is against a possible amendment, he has said he will not violate state law by allowing same-sex marriages in Denver. Levitt, told City Councilman Charlie Brown that Hickenlooper "could have remained mute to his personal beliefs."

Now I believe that this guy is an idiot. A moron. Has much better things to do with his time. BUT.....as soon as the story breaks, one of my co-workers, a good friend, walks in and says "look at what YOUR PEOPLE are trying to do".

At that point two other co-workers joined in the conversation AT MY DESK and discussed how stupid I was to be a Republican.

So I told them "this is a hostile work environment."

Their response? "Freedom of Speech, freedom of speech". and then they laughed. Laughed.

Well good. I'm glad that it's freedom of speech to call me stupid at my desk. I'll be sure to remember that the next time one of them makes a fool out of themselves ************* (I realized that Yes I AM better than that, so a stealth edit).

Oh well, freedom of speech.

If this had been a bunch of conservatives doing this to a Democrat, lawsuits would be flying. If Dems want any respect from Republicans then they can DROP THE DOUBLE STANDARD.

O.K. Now I need to go outside and take a few deep breaths. Back in a while.

Here's a New Twist

A man who claims he was sexually abused by a Roman Catholic nun 35 years ago is suing the nun, the Diocese of Richmond, Virginia and the convent she belonged to. The alleged victim claims he was fondled and forced to touch the genitalia and breasts of now 64-year-old Ellen Rhoads when he was ten years old and attending St. Gregory the Great School. Rhoads was known as Sister Francis Therese during her tenure at the Virginia Beach School.

Interesting. I wonder if we'll hear a lot about this outside of this blog?

My Post on eTalkinghead

I have just posted my thoughts on gay marriage at eTalkinghead.

As a person who could really care less who marries whom, same-sex proponents aren't doing a very good job at making me sympathetic to their cause. And that is the 100,000 pound elephant in the room no one is talking about. In California, 61% of the population voted against same-sex marriage. 61% You not only win an election with 61%, you pass a test. 61% is a huge number, but same-sex proponents ignore that gi-normous number. That percentage of people opposed to same-sex marriage is even bigger when you start talking about the rest of the country, approaching 70%.

Same-sex marriage is not a winning issue in this country. A fact supported by John Kerry, and John Edwards both shying away from the issue. But instead of trying to win the hearts and minds of some the those people against same-sex marriage, the homosexual community has decided to throw the issue in the faces of the majority.
