Republicans at CU-Boulder want to make a point, and they're doing it by protesting...bake-sale style. A group called the Equal Opportunity Alliance offered cookies and other baked goods on the Boulder campus for donations. The group is asking one dollar for their goods from White and Asian students. Hispanics will be asked to pay only 50-cents, blacks 25-cents and other minority groups can have the baked goods for free. CU College Republicans President Brad Jones says the point of the bake sale is to parody affirmative action. Jones says affirmative action "inferrs a lot about character and ability to pay by the color of your skin." CU officials initially objected to the bake sale saying it would be a violation of the 1964 civil rights act. Jones says the conflict was handled by making the prices "suggested donations" rather than set prices. Colorado Senator Ed Jones, who plans to introduce a bill banning racial preferences in higher education joined the group during the bake sale.
Good luck to them. I hope that they don't have the same problems other colleges and univesities have had, but as wierd as Boulder is, they usually will let protests go on.
