A Good Thing

I'm glad to hear about this in the Rocky Mountain News...

The FBI acknowledged Wednesday that it is interviewing activists in several states about "people or groups planning criminal acts" during the national political conventions.

In Colorado, a dozen or so men and women have been questioned at two homes in Denver, and one man was questioned at his workplace in Fort Collins.

The law enforcement interviewers have included police and sheriff's deputies assigned to the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force.

After reading about activists trying to close down the Republican convention, trying to hijack press vehicles, with ALF and ELF running around, why wouldn't the FBI investigate. Protesting is one thing, but when people admit they're planning illegal activities, they should expect a knock on the FBI.

And, of course, the ACLU is upset....shocker.

The Candy Bar Menace

About 6:30 p.m. July 16, Willett was eating a PayDay candy bar while riding the escalator from 11th Street NW into the Metro Center Station. Metro Transit Police Officer Cherrail Curry-Hagler was riding up.

The police officer warned Willett to finish the candy before entering the station because eating or drinking in the Metro system is illegal.

Willett nodded, kept chewing the peanut-and-caramel bar and stuffed the last bit into her mouth before throwing the wrapper into the trash can near the station manager's kiosk, according to both Willett and Curry-Hagler.

Curry-Hagler turned around and followed Willett into the station. Moments after making a remark to the officer, Willett said, she was searched, handcuffed and arrested for chewing the last bite of her candy bar after she passed through the fare gates. She was released several hours later after paying a $10 fine, pending a hearing.

We are worried about terrorists hitting the subways, but the cops on that beat are looking for food violators...oh there's more...

We've been doing our best to crack down on people who are consuming food and beverages in our stations because we get so many complaints about it," said Lisa Farbstein, a Metro spokeswoman. "In this instance, the woman was given a warning, which she ignored, and she jammed the rest of the candy bar into her mouth and continued to chew."

Willett said she was being unfairly punished because she made fun of the police officer after Curry-Hagler issued a second warning before the arrest.

"Why don't you go and take care of some real crime?" Willett said she told the officer while still swallowing the PayDay bar as she rode a second escalator to catch her Orange Line train home.

I agree! Work on finding some REAL crime...

I'm not really into the conventions..big surprise. I may watch, but then again, I may go see Dodgeball or Anchorman.

Pretty busy. Summer doldrums. Not a good recipe for intense blogging. But I'll keep at it if something floats my boat.

Adolph Coors Co. and Canada's Molson Inc. announced a plan Thursday to combine their family-run breweries into the world's fifth-largest beermaker and better position themselves to pursue growing overseas markets.

I have no problem with breweries getting bigger...especially ones within 20 miles of me. Woo Hoo!!!!!

A Problem With Security

Back in October of 2002, Ahmed allegedly said he had never had his security clearance suspended, when in fact he had. His security clearance and access to classified information was suspended in 2001, while he was in the Air Force serving at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

"I have no idea what the charges are," he said, " but as soon as we talk to my lawyer, we’ll figure it out. "

Ahmed is also accused of saying he never left a job under unfavorable conditions, when in fact he was discharged from the Air Force because he allegedly made statements that he supports Osama Bin Laden, that the U.S. deserved the 9/11 attacks, and that U.S. aircraft flying over Iraq should crash.

I hope this isn't true because, I don't want people who sided with bin Laden regarding planes crashing into buildings to be in charge of security on planes. As long as stupid stuff like this continues to happen, there is no doubt in my mind there will be another attack.

Prison Riots

A prison riot at a company-run facility in southern Colorado has reignited the debate over private lockups.

More than 3,500 prison beds in Colorado are managed by companies, meaning nearly 20 percent of the state's total prison capacity is in private hands.

While officials for the private-prison company say privatization helps cash- strapped state governments and provides quality service, those numbers raise concern among some analysts and state lawmakers who doubt the costs and benefits.

O.K. I'll buy that...Give me another option...Denver needs a new jail badly, but it keeps getting protested because people don't want it "in their backyard". We need jails. These companies are filling that need. You got a better idea, let's have it.

Fat Is NOT YOUR Fault

And it turns out, the extra weight isn't even my fault.

Until now, I have always assumed my clandestine visits to the local fast-food joint were just a shameful character flaw, my extra flab a source of endless personal embarrassment.

But according to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, if my sporadic indulgence of junk food becomes habitual, it can be classified as a disease, and you'll be called upon to help cure me.

This week, the Department of Health and Human Services has removed language that stated obesity was not an illness.

Yes it is your fault. Fat IS NOT AN ILLNESS...that is all.

A Question For Dems

You Really want a president who has as his foreign policy advisors, a liar in Joe Wilson, a (at best) bumbling, absent minded, no clue about rules regarding classified documents even though he is a former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, and a guy who's idea of the biggest threat to the Unied States before 9-11 was cybersecurity, Richard Clarke....

That doesn't scare you? Really? If not, then you're NOT serious about National Security..period.

Nothing To See Here

Iraqi security reportedly discovered three missiles carrying nuclear heads concealed in a concrete trench northwest of Baghdad, official sources said Wednesday.

The official daily al-Sabah quoted the sources as saying the missiles were discovered in trenches near the city of Tikrit, the hometown of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

"The three missiles were discovered by chance when the Iraqi security forces captured former Baath party official Khoder al-Douri who revealed during interrogation the location of the missiles saying they carried nuclear heads," the sources said.

They pointed out that the missiles were actually discovered in the trenches lying under six meters of concrete and designed in a way to unable sophisticated sensors from discovering nuclear radiation.

So wait a second...I thought that there were no WMDs in Iraq...I mean except for the sarin shells with the capacity to kill up to 50,000 people each, the 1.7 tons of uranium, and now the three NUCLEAR WARHEADS...

What's next' Ebola filled suicide packs? I guess it wasn't the president who "lied", after all.
