I'm on the radio today and tomorrow on KNRC 3p - 6p Mountain time. Just thinking out my topics so positng might be sparce the next couple of days. I WILL try though...just sayin'.

Elton John is a Moron

From the BBC...

Elton John has said stars are scared to speak out against war in Iraq because of "bullying tactics" used by the US government to hinder free speech. "There's an atmosphere of fear in America right now that is deadly. Everyone is too career-conscious," he told New York magazine, Interview.

Sir Elton said performers could be "frightened by the current administration's bullying tactics".

The singer likened the current "fear factor" to McCarthyism in the 1950s.

"There was a moment about a year ago when you couldn't say a word about anything in this country for fear of your career being shot down by people saying you are un-American," he told the magazine.

Look Elton, if you say things that get a lot of people angry at you, you'll take a hit. Sorry that's NOT censorship. If you feel you need to do a "Whoopi Goldberg" on someone and you get boycotted, that's NOT censorship.

No one's being put in jail and certainly no one is being stifled from speaking out. This is almost as ridiculous as climing that American Idol voting was racist.

Get back on your meds Elton!

Minority Stats Down

From the Rocky Mountain News...

Undergraduate minority enrollment at Colorado's public colleges remains stagnant despite pushes at universities across the state to increase campus diversity.

State schools have made it a priority to attract minority students, hiring consultants, pitching diversity plans and targeting high school seniors who might not have considered a Colorado university before.

Still, barely one in five undergraduate students on state college campuses last year was a minority, according to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. Only 16 percent were black or Hispanic.

"Getting more minority students should be a high priority, but there's no quick fix to this," said Ray Baker, who chairs the commission. "Unfortunately, this is going to be a very slow process."

The reasons for Colorado's situation are many. While experts agree socioeconomic status plays the biggest role, counselors and students say money is only one issue.

They argue that teachers and parents push too few minorities toward college, and that some minority students are reluctant to attend schools where a majority of their peers would be white. For other students, a lack of realistic goals and planning leave some believing college is easily attainable, even with mediocre grades.

I have an idea, let's stop telling minorities that they can't do this themselves. That they NEED help. That they can't get in to schools without help.

I have another idea, let's stop letting kids just slide through high school. Many kids are never held accountable for their progress. Tests have become a bad word. School is not daycare, let's stop treating school like it is.

Let's Recap

Still down and out due to bronchitis, but I wanted to recap a few things...

The Left said Bush lied about WMD's in Iraq, but Polish troops have found enough shells filled with saring to kill nearly a million people. Furthermore, the U.N. continues to believe he had them up to the war then moved them to Syria. Furthermore, the United States last month removed roughly 1.7 TONS of uranium from Iraq. Enough to make at least one atomic bomb.

The Left said Bush lied about Iraq trying to get uranium from Africa, but even Joe Wilson actually found connections..he just lied. Furthermore, reports from England and here have supported the assertion that Iraq WAS trying to get uranium, not only from Africa, but from Niger.

The Left said the war was unilateral, ignoring the fact that most of Europe is actually helping.

The Left said the war was premptive. Maybe a little, but that would be to ignore U.N. Security Council resolution 687 which states:

Iraq shall unconditionally accept, under international supervision, the destruction, removal or rendering harmless of its weapons of mass destruction, ballistic missiles with a range over 150 kilometres, and related production facilities and equipment. It also provides for establishment of a system of ongoing monitoring and verification of Iraq’s compliance with the ban on these weapons and missiles. Requires Iraq to make a declaration, within 15 days, of the location, amounts and types of all such items.

A resolution they accepted on April 6th 1991, but never adhered to.

The Left said Bush Lied about Iraq as a threat, but Russia had evidence that Saddam was trying to hit us with terror attacks.

As you can see, the Left says a lot of things. You shouldn't trust any of it.

Real Racism

His grandmother used to stop people in the street and brag after Moreko Griggs finished the ninth grade ranked No. 1 in his class. She was even prouder when he was named the first black valedictorian in Waynesboro High School history. Then, the day before graduation in June, his grandmother received a call from the school principal: Moreko would have to share the distinction with two white students.

"He said there's been a change and new grades have come in and we have two more valedictorians," Griggs recalled. "We were stunned."

Others in Waynesboro, a small city in the Blue Ridge Mountains about 100 miles west of Richmond, were also shocked, with some calling the decision racist.

After all, Griggs had already been named the school's top student at an awards ceremony in May. Graduation fliers had even been printed listing him as valedictorian.

I'm siding with the NAACP? Oh my head, the bronchitis must be kicking in again....I must lay down.

But Principal Mitch Peeling denied race was a factor in the decision. He said changes were necessary after a parent of one of the white students asked for a review and it was determined that all three students' grades were extremely close.

Traditionally, grades from the final three weeks of classes were not used to calculate grade point averages when choosing the valedictorian. But Peeling and school board officials this year decided to include the final three weeks and a college course grade.

"We do know that there was a flaw in the system," Peeling said. "We're in the process of looking into that and deciding how to do it from here on out."

Well what you do is to start the new system NEXT YEAR!!! The fact that your changing your system with a few weeks left in the system to accomodate a white family DOES INDEED SMACK OF RACISM even if unintentional. Think if the races were switched and a black family asked for a review of the system in the final weeks of the year.

Outrage would abound.

Do the right thing. Let the kid be valedictorian. That's what salutorians are for anyway.

You SHOULD Obey The Rules

A Phoenix television reporter has been fired after he donated $100 to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's campaign and then broke an explosive story about Arpaio's political opponent.

Rob Koebel of Channel 15 (KNXV) lost his job Thursday. He defended his actions Friday, saying the Sheriff's Office didn't leak the story to him, and station managers helped him write the copy.

"They're worried about ratings, and they're worried about image," Koebel said. "That's their top priority."

I don't know how many times I gotta repeat this....If your in the media and your reporting on stories, you gotta at least SEEM objective. The fact that he gave money to Arapaio, AND broke a story against his opponent smacks of dirty politics. The guy lost his credibility, and the station it's credibility.

This should be a lesson to ALL news folk...(are you listening L.A. and N.Y. Times?)Don't give donations. You picked this job, do it right or get out.

Because They Can

Eleven lawsuits were filed Tuesday against the city, a motorist and others on behalf of nine people who were injured and two who were killed when a car plowed through a crowded farmers market last year.

The suits seek unspecified damages against the city and 88-year-old George Russell Weller, whose car smashed through the market set up on a downtown street July 16.

A total of 10 people were killed and 63 injured in the accident.

Other defendants in the new suits include Bayside District Corp., which oversees the market, Southland Farmers Market Association, Los Angeles County's agricultural commissioner and the state of California. Another suit will be filed later this week on behalf of the family of a third person who died.

Why sue the city? The result of the suit will only be to close down all the farmer's markets in Santa Monica. But as John Edwards says, sue 'em all, let the judge sort 'em out....Tort reform anyone? Anyone?

Ridiculous.

Come On Guys, Get It Together

A Denver Police officer shot and killed the wrong man Sunday night, News 4 reports.

Police said the incident happened while they responded to a domestic violence call.

The man police shot, Frank Lobato, 63, is the uncle of the woman who called for help, according to News 4 partner the Rocky Mountain News. He was shot once in the chest at a housing project apartment near Lincoln Park and later pronounced dead at Denver Health Medical Center.

The woman who called police said that she had been held against her will for 17 hours and repeatedly assaulted inside her unit, located at W. 10th Ave. and Mariposa.

She told police that the suspect, Vincent Martinez had fallen asleep and that she was able to get away and call for help at about 7 p.m.

Officers said that when they arrived at the scene they did not get an answer at the front door, so they used a ladder and climbed through a second story window to get inside the home. That's when the three officers inside allegedly came to a closed bedroom door.

"According to the officers involved in the shooting, when the door was open the man in bed inside the room moved suddenly while displaying what the officer believed to be a firearm in his hand," Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman said.

Police said that what appeared to be a gun was a can of soda.

There comes a time when you have had enough, and this is it for me. Come on cops, can we have just a little patience when your dealing with a guy who's allegedly asleep? I mean geez.

The time has come for all police to have college degrees...real four year degrees...in order to become police. This shooting business is getting out of control.

They Just Don't Understand

NBC4 has this story...

A Bay Area anti-war group has taken out a full-page newspaper ad in Baghdad apologizing to Iraqis for the war.

The Al-Sabah Al-Jadeed paper is carrying a full page ad, in which the anti-war group Not In Our Name apologizes for the war, and for alleged abuse of Iraqi prisoners, according to local news reports.

The ad reads: "As people living in the United States, we offer our sincere and heart-felt apologies to the people of Iraq for the countless injustices done to your nation by our government, in our names..."

"We did want the Iraqi people to know there are people in the U.S. that are opposed to this government and we oppose the injustices done by our government in our names," said Jeff Paterson, of Not In Our Name.

I wonder if they realize that the paper might not have been around before the war, and certainly would not be printing anything from America in it before the war.

No word if they apologized for getting Saddam out of power, and getting all those kids out of the kiddie prison, and stopping all the rapes, and REAL torture.
