How To Make Chile Look Bad

I just read in The Week that Chileans were mad about the hubbub regarding the Secret Service scuffle and the subsequent insult of having all the guests at a state dinner having to walk through metal detectors.

Now read THIS...

President Bush was targeted for assassination by Colombia's biggest Marxist rebel group last week when he visited the Caribbean port city of Cartagena, a top Colombian official said yesterday.
    "According to informants and various sources, we had information indicating that various members of the FARC had been instructed by their leaders to make an attempt against President Bush," Defense Secretary Jorge Alberto Uribe told reporters.

Me thinks that Chile needs to look at what's going on in the real world and quit complaining so much about the "insult" of walking through a metal detector.  Your country would look pretty bad if one of those "guests" killed a president.

The "Read This" Diet

This will stop all urges to go get lunch right now......

Peaches, plums, oranges, cantaloupe, butternut squash, red peppers, jicama, a mess of cucumbers.

All fragrant, ripe, ready to eat.

And all plucked out of Dumpsters by a squad of young friends who feed on the edible treasures they find in the garbage of North Jersey's restaurants and markets.

They're known as freegans - though Dumpster divers might be more apt. They have the resources to buy their food, but they prefer harvesting it this way to make a political statement.

Yummmmmmmy.  Nothing tastes better than some food that's been picked out of the trash.  I've heard of "Freegans" before, but I still have to wonder if that 25 cents you don't have to pay for a piece of fruit is worth it.

Gone Skiing!!!!

With snow reports like THIS in the last 24 hours, I've come down with the A-Basin Flu.  The only cure is copious amounts of skiing in fresh powder.  I'll check back later.

And here I thought being unemployed was a bad thing.....

Nice Try, But No Apology

This guy is a racist.  There is no other way to put it.  Yes he finally apologized, but it's not really an apology

A radio host apologized Monday for calling secretary of state nominee Condoleezza Rice "Aunt Jemima," but refused to back down from his criticism that she is a "black trophy" of the Bush administration.

John "Sly" Sylvester, the program director and morning personality on WTDY-AM, wrote a letter of apology to local newspapers.

"I'm concerned that I have offended many African-Americans by using a crass term to describe an incompetent, dishonest political appointee of the Bush administration. I apologize," wrote Sylvester, who is white.

Sylvester wrote he would not, however, apologize for criticizing Rice, saying "she has allowed herself to be used as a black trophy by an administration."

Listen you moron!  Calling someone a "black trophy" in your apology statement is just as bad as calling someone an "Aunt Jemima".  You are still making derogatory statements about her race in a demeaning way.  If you can't even figure that out, well YOU HAVE A PROBLEM!  The general manager of that station needs to step in a get this guy under control.  What a whack job.

Un-Civil Discourse

This is a bit disturbing....

Terry Graham, a proponent of tighter immigration laws, attended the forum at North High School last July, and spoke out, disagreeing with the panelists, according to the suit. She says that 32-year-old Julissa Molina Soto told her to "shut up" and then pushed her to the floor, punched her head, ripped her clothes and smashed the tape recorder she was holding.

For my part, having seen actions of many people in the Denver community, this attack surprises me not one bit.  All you have to do is go to one Columbus Day parade to see these "nice" people at work.  But that's what you get when you advocate any restrictions on immigration.

Trying to bum a cigarette may be the cause behind a fatal stabbing in Jacksonville, Florida.  Denise Brinson was arrested last week for allegedly attacking a 49-year-old woman that asked her for a cigarette.  Police say the murder took place last Wednesday at a park.  Brinson has a history of arrests, primarily for aggravated assault.

I guess smoking is bad for your health.  Who knew?
