Dumb Criminal Alert

Buying a pack of smokes from a store will usually not lead to an arrest, unless the customer just robbed the place a few hours before.  That's what police in Salt Lake City, Utah, say recently happened.  The 18-year-old is accused of walking into a 7-Eleven and asking for some cigarettes when the clerk recognized him as the same person who had just stolen beer from the place.  The clerk asked for an ID and the man indicated he had a gun.  Despite the threat the clerk stalled long enough for a police dog and officer to arrive.  The suspected thief was booked for robbery and theft. 

Maybe this makes me a genius, but if I rob a store the last place I go for the next year...or ever...is to the store I robbed.  Thank goodness so many of these criminals are idiots.

A Good Thing

The first woman ever to be convicted of raping a man in a Scandinavian country will spend nine months behind bars.  The 23-year-old Norwegian woman took advantage of a man who had fallen asleep last year at a party.  He said he woke up to find her performing oral sex on him without his consent.  Rape is defined in Norway as a sexual act with someone who is not conscious or unable to oppose the act.  Along with the nine-months behind bars the woman must pay 63-hundred-dollars in compensation.

Gotta love equality baby...in ALL it's forms.

Toddler Gets Lost

The parents of a three-year-old New York state boy are breathing a sigh of relief after a surprise outing by the toddler.  Police say Clarence Ricky Davis left his Springfield Gardens home around noon Wednesday, while his father was sleeping.  Davis then took a city bus to the Jamaica Queens Multiplex about three miles away, and snuck into the movies to see "Robots."  A security guard stopped the boy at the movie theater and called police, who were already searching for him.  Police questioned the boy's parents, and while his father was initially charged with child endangerment, authorities have dropped the count.

Thank goodness for the security guard.  Here's a question though...I'm sure that other people saw this kid as he walked three miles to a movie theater.  Why didn't anyone else call the cops.  Just askin'.

Not A Good Choice

The best man at a weekend wedding in Hampton, Virginia is now facing life in prison for allegedly torching the happy couple's home while they were away on their honeymoon.  According to Hampton's "Daily Press," Joseph Overton wished Anthony and Shannon Gear Williams happiness in a traditional toast Saturday.  Police say he set their house on fire a few days later.  Investigators found Molotov cocktails outside of the home, which was destroyed.  The newlyweds were forced to cut short their Caribbean cruise to return to Hampton yesterday.  They're living in a home provided by their insurance company.  Overton remains in the Hampton City Jail without bond.  He faces up to life in prison on two felony counts of burning or destroying a dwelling and manufacturing, possessing or using an explosive device.  Overton knew Anthony Williams for 13 years, but they had a falling out about a year ago.

I'm pretty sure that if I ever get married, I'm not gonna have a best man who I had a falling out with.  Especially one who has a penchant for burning things...with molotov cocktails.

A Real Hero

Akio Clark is a real hero...

Akio Clark lost his left eye when he tried to stop several men from gang-raping a young woman in Denver about eight months ago.

Since then, Clark lost his job as a bus driver, had the woman he rescued laugh at him when he saw her a few months later in the neighborhood and admitted he struggles with anger over his blindness.

Yet, the 29-year-old remains unequivocal: He would make the same choice again.

"For me, it was instinct," Clark said. "If it was my mother or sister in the same incident, I'd hope someone would help them."

Some people are just better than others, and Akio Clark is one of the best.  Much better than the woman he saved, who probably didn't deserve it.  An unbelievable story...read the whole thing.

When Pressing Charges Goes Bad

A Virginia woman is accused of assault after a police officer slipped on steps she had oiled to keep people out of her apartment.  According to WUSA-TV in Washington, DC, the Stafford Sheriff's Office responded to a home this past weeekend for complaints about loud music, yelling and a damaged door.  However, the officer stumbled down the steps to the basement apartment because the woman who lived there didn't tell him they were greased and slick.  The officer hurt his shoulder and back.  Kathy Ryzner is charged with assault on a police officer and destruction of property.

If I were this lady I would fight this tooth and nail.  This is the officer's, who is obviously a klutz who shouldn't be doing police work, fault and no one else's...Geez.

A Good Idea

A new Australian cemetery will bury the dead in a standing position.  The goal is to provide cheap burials that are friendly to the environment.  The government has approved the plans for the graveyard, where corpses will be buried vertically in body bags instead of caskets.  A spokesman says if you use the services of the new cemetery you'll be returned to the earth with "a minimum of fuss, and no paraphernalia that would affect the environment."  He says the average burial will run just under eight-hundred-dollars.

The only downside will be on days of memorial when all the living are packed in as tightly as the corpses are....Besides it could be worse...

An Oregon funeral home director is accused of having inappropriate physical contact with corpses.  KOIN News Six television in Portland reports that a former employee of the Rose City Cemetery and Funeral Home in Portland says he saw director Mike Orcutt sexually touch corpses and heard him make racially and sexually insensitive comments.  The disturbing accusations are being investigated by the Oregon Mortuary and Cemetery Board.

Screwed

Screws and tires don't mix -- just ask the drivers of more than 40 cars on Interstate 25 in the Denver area, whose journeys ground to a halt yesterday.  More than five-thousand screws went flying from a truck.  The driver said the belt that kept the boxes of screws in place on his truck broke, and when it did, the liberated screws went in all directions.  He proceeded to hand out business cards to everyone with flat tire, called in a tow truck and paid for all the repairs at a local tire shop.

As someone who reported on this during my traffic reports, I can tell you that this did indeed screw up traffic.  I'm actually surprised that the news department thought this was a news story...but then again, they've been known to have screws loose as well.

Can't Win For Losing

A man in Muskegon, Michigan was able to prove to state police troopers recently that his wife and her best friend had made up a story about him beating his wife.  But, he apparently did it by secretly recording their phone conversations.  That is a felony.  So, he has been charged with felony eavesdropping.  His wife, Jessica Ann Cirner and her friend Rebecca Mae Kirkey are both charged with filing false police reports.

Well that sucks, but I think I would take the felony eavesdropping to prove I'm not a wife beater.  I imagine he will get this pled down...divorce proceeding should follow quickly.
