A new Australian cemetery will bury the dead in a standing position. The goal is to provide cheap burials that are friendly to the environment. The government has approved the plans for the graveyard, where corpses will be buried vertically in body bags instead of caskets. A spokesman says if you use the services of the new cemetery you'll be returned to the earth with "a minimum of fuss, and no paraphernalia that would affect the environment." He says the average burial will run just under eight-hundred-dollars.
The only downside will be on days of memorial when all the living are packed in as tightly as the corpses are....Besides it could be worse...
An Oregon funeral home director is accused of having inappropriate physical contact with corpses. KOIN News Six television in Portland reports that a former employee of the Rose City Cemetery and Funeral Home in Portland says he saw director Mike Orcutt sexually touch corpses and heard him make racially and sexually insensitive comments. The disturbing accusations are being investigated by the Oregon Mortuary and Cemetery Board.
