The best man at a weekend wedding in Hampton, Virginia is now facing life in prison for allegedly torching the happy couple's home while they were away on their honeymoon. According to Hampton's "Daily Press," Joseph Overton wished Anthony and Shannon Gear Williams happiness in a traditional toast Saturday. Police say he set their house on fire a few days later. Investigators found Molotov cocktails outside of the home, which was destroyed. The newlyweds were forced to cut short their Caribbean cruise to return to Hampton yesterday. They're living in a home provided by their insurance company. Overton remains in the Hampton City Jail without bond. He faces up to life in prison on two felony counts of burning or destroying a dwelling and manufacturing, possessing or using an explosive device. Overton knew Anthony Williams for 13 years, but they had a falling out about a year ago.
I'm pretty sure that if I ever get married, I'm not gonna have a best man who I had a falling out with. Especially one who has a penchant for burning things...with molotov cocktails.
Just to comment on the above. My husband and I were the ones that were on our honeymoon when our house was burned down and just to set the record straight, my husband and the best man had made ammends prior to the wedding. Obviously he would not have had him in the wedding if they were still having a disagreement or falling out!!!!! And....he had no prior past of any type of arson or manufactoring of explosives!! I would strongly suggest that you get your facts straight before you start making assumptions especially on sensitive issues as this one. We lost everything we owned in this fire and it has been quite difficult for us!!
