Sen. Ken Salazar said Wednesday he regrets referring to Focus on the Family and its founder James Dobson as "the Antichrist" - a term among the worst slurs in Christianity.

Salazar issued a statement Wednesday evening, backing down from a remark he made Tuesday night during an audio interview aired on KKTV of Colorado Springs.

In that interview, Salazar said of Focus on the Family: "From my point of view, they are the Antichrist of the world."

The remark and Salazar's retraction represent the latest development in a bitter fight over President Bush's judicial nominees and efforts by religious groups like Focus on the Family to get them approved by the Senate.

Look Kenneth, I know you're trying to fit in with all your new friends like Howie, and Babs, and the Nanster, but you need to understand that you can't be calling your opponents "the Antichrist"...especially when there are better candidates for the job.  People like Osama, and Zaqarwi, and the folks in the Janjaweed are better candidates, don't you think?  And by the way, Focus on the Family does have a point.  You said that judges deserve an up or down vote, yet you flip flopped in a manner that makes John Kerry look like a rock.   Some advice.  Don't be calling people names, and stop breaking the promises you made to your constituency.....Just Sayin'.

When Doctors Go Bad

A well-known Colorado doctor accused of trading painkillers for sex made an appearance in Arapahoe County Court yesterday to hear the charges against him.  Prosecutors say Dr. Philip Mallory hung out at a Glendale strip club, then took women to a nearby hotel, where he wrote them prescriptions for painkillers in exchange for sex and shooting porn videos.  He is charged with ten felony counts, most pertaining to the distribution of controlled substances.  Mallory made a name for himself in a different way a few years ago as he helped to save Columbine victims.  His preliminary hearing is set for June 9th.

It just proves you can never be too careful about your choice of doctors....or strip clubs.

What Would You Do

An Appleton, Wisconsin woman must choose between jail and the Green Bay Packers.  After Sharon Rosenthal was convicted of theft, Judge Scott Woldt said she must either serve 90 days in jail, or donate her family's four-seat Packer package to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Foundation spokesperson Renee Kimberger says this is an unusual gift.  No decision has yet been announced.  The woman was convicted of stealing three-thousand dollars from her former employer.

A hard choice, especially for a Pacer fan.  She's lucky I wasn't the judge..I'd make her do both....

Why I Will Never Take The Kids To Chucky Cheese

Chuck E. Cheese is known as a family restaurant, but things got a bit out of control recently at one of them in Massachusetts.  Authorities in the town of Leominster say an argument broke out and words were exchanged between Eduarda Silveira and three young female patrons near a photo booth.  Police say Eduara was attacked and beaten while she stood with her infant daughter and husband.  A man and his sons helped her, and the three women were arrested.  All three were slapped with assault and battery charges.

This is not the first incident taking place in a Chucky Cheese.  Put out of control kids and stressed out parents in an environment with loud music, ringing bells and lights...it's a recipe for disaster.

A Texas woman will spend ten days in a jury room or ten days behind bars for leaving jury duty without proper permission.  Texas Southern University professor Sara White complained about not feeling well recently during jury duty but Judge David Hittner refused to let her leave.  Court officials say White left anyway and now Judge Hittner is making White sit in the federal jury room without reading materials for ten working days.  She is also not allowed to contact anyone while in the jury room.  If White does not comply she'll spend ten days in jail.

You know, I have kids that I work with who try this stuff.  I don't let it happen for kids, and I'm glad this judge didn't let the lady get away with this either.  Some people just have no respect for anyone or anything.

A skier who had been missing for eight days was found alive yesterday in Colorado.  Rescue crews say 55-year-old Charles Horton could barely speak when he was found in the Flat Tops area near the Routt and Rio Blanco County line.  He also had a broken leg.  Police say Horton had gone cross country skiing on April 17th.  Rescuers say Horton told them he broke his leg while skiing.  According to Horton, he slept under trees at night.  Horton wasn't reported as missing until Sunday when his landlord returned home from vacation and found him gone.  Crews started looking for Horton on Sunday with dogs and snowmobiles.  Authorities say Horton survived because he was prepared for back country survival.  He's being treated at a Steamboat Spring hospital.

An amazing story, which leads me to believe that if you live, and play in a backwoods area, backcountry survival training seems like a very good idea.

Democrats in the U.S. Senate are preparing a compromise designed to avert a showdown with Republicans over the use of the filibuster.  "The New York Times" reports that Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada is working on the agreement and discussing it with members of both parties.  It calls for the Democrats to approve some of President Bush's most controversial nominees, while the GOP would agree not to change any rules regarding filibusters.  It remains to be seen, however, if Republicans will agree.  Some GOP officials called the proposal "window dressing."  Republican Senators, meantime, are working on their own compromise but it's reportedly not ready yet.

So Dems are compromising on the judges the have been saying for years are evil, radical, judges that would ruin the judiciary if they were ever, EVER to be nominated.  I guess they must have been less than truthful about their motives.  Either that, or they have no principles.  If these judges are so bad, stick to your guns...If they weren't so bad that now you can confirm them...well...I guess we know you're just playing obstructionist.

A Real Food Lawsuit

A man who bit into an Arby's sandwich and found a piece of human flesh in it almost a year ago has filed a lawsuit against the owner of the restaurant.  According to the "Daytona Daily News" David Scheiding purchased a grilled chicken sandwich at an Arby's in Tipp City, Ohio last June.  He took his lunch back to his office and when he bit into the sandwich he said, quote, "it felt like rubber."  When Scheiding spit it out he discovered a piece of flesh nearly an inch long with what appeared to be fingerprints on it.  It was later determined the flesh was from the thumb of a manager at the restaurant who had accidently sliced it off the day before.  It's believed the skin landed in a bin of lettuce that wasn't thrown away after the incident.

After all the frauds we've seen regarding human parts in foods, it's sad...and disgusting...to know this kind of stuff really happens.  What was this Arby's thinking?  Look for the flesh that was cut off and make sure you get all of it. If you can't find it...GET RID OF ALL THE MEAT IN THE AREA....egad.  I guess if it was "common sense", everyone would have it.

When Anti-Discrimination Goes Bad

A restaurant owner in Sweden is going to fork over more than seven-thousand-dollars for kicking a lesbian couple out of his place.  The women were kissing in 2003 when Aziz Cakir asked them to leave and later told authorities he didn't allow that sort of behavior in his establishment.  A sexual discrimination suit was filed but didn't get very far until an appeals court recently overturned a previous court ruling.  Despite Cakir's claim that he never allowed kissing in his place regardless of sexual orientation, he was ordered to pay legal expenses and other costs.   

So in spite of the fact that he actually doesn't discriminate, he is still guilty.  Tell me why all these other countries are so enlightened again?

Bad Smell Ban

Library officials in Houston, Texas want new rules against people with offensive body odor.  That's one of the changes they're asking city council to make.  It would address, quote, "offensive bodily hygiene that constitutes a nuisance to others."  Other changes would include a rule against sleeping on tables, bathing in the restroom and looking at obscene material on the Internet.  The city council is scheduled to take on the issue tomorrow.

I have to agree with this.  We've come too far in the hygene department to accept people who smell bad.  I'm sorry, I don't budge on this one...you smell...you leave.
