I posted earlier about fans...
I have an idea about how to stop unruly fans from becoming a problem. Punish the teams of the fans. How do you do this? Easily.
I was watching a soccer game between two European powerhouses Roma and AC Milan yesterday. I noticed that the stadium was empty. Apparently, a fan had thrown something at a ref and had hit him in an earlier game played at AC Milan. The response from the higher ups was to require the game to be played but the doors locked and no fans allowed to watch.
This reinforces my opinion....
Auburn Hills Police are investigating another alleged cup-throwing incident at the Palace. Reportedly a Macomb Township, Michigan man emptied his beer onto a Miami Heat staff member during Sunday night's game. There have been no charges or arrests in this case. The incident report goes to the prosecutor's office this week.
Only when teams are penalized for the criminal behavior, yes criminal...try pouring beer on someone walking down the street and see what happens, will this stop. One playoff game played in Detroit with no fans, no concessions, no ticket sales, and the embarrasment of knowing the whole country will be making a big deal out of it will nip this crap in the bud.
Too bad David Stern doesn't have the guts to do it.
