Central and South American immigrants are flooding into the United States at the border crossing at Eagle Pass, Texas, because the word has spread that the U.S. can not hold all the illegal immigrants that are captured. The Border Patrol says more than 15-thousand of the illegal border crossers nabbed in the past eight months are non-Mexican immigrants. That's nearly three-and-a-half times the number of just a year ago. And the reason is the "diploma." That's the name local residents give the immigration summons which border officials issue those non-Mexican immigrants who are determined not to be a security threat. They're told to return in 30 days for a hearing and released into the local town. But few return.
One border official says things have grown to the point that the non-Mexican immigrants time their arrival at the border with the scheduled arrival of Mexican buses each day, cross with the travelers and quickly surrender in hopes of being released with a summons. Two Honduran sisters told a reporter as they were released by U.S. officials that the illegal crossing at the Rio Grande River was much easier than they expected and far less dangerous than attempting to cross the Arizona desert. They then headed for New York.
Jaw droppingly amazing. AT what point do we put a office there and at least get these people registered so we at least have some idea about who is coming across the border.
It is wrong. Might as well hang up a Welcome Sign and have Greyhound pick them up.
