An embarrassing mistake by the University of Manitoba left graduating students with a degree from next year. The school's graduating class received diplomas with the date of "June, 2006" on them. The Canadian university is trying to fix the mistake, which was a simple typographical error. The problem was noticed last week by students and staff before the graduation ceremony. Letters are being sent that apologizes for the mistake and the bad diplomas can be exchanged for corrected ones by mail or on campus.
I've never really understood this. These schools are teaching these kids to be, I hope, responsible people who get their work done, check it, and check it again. They should be following their own example. For this to happen, so many people from the University dropped the ball it's ridiculous. What would have happened if one of these kids had turned in a project with such a big mistake? Universities need to hold themselves to the same standards they hold their student...really.
