This just came over the Metro Browser...
Three London underground rail stations have been evacuated after witnesses reported seeing smoke pouring from at least one train. There has been no official confirmation of the report.
I hope this isn't what I think it is. I'll keep you updated.
UPDATE: Here's more...
Three of London's underground rail stations have been evacuated after witnesses reported seeing smoke billowing from at least one train. Scotland Yard has confirmed that emergency services are responding to reports of, quote, "incidents at three locations on the underground -- Oval, Warren Street and Shepherd's Bush." The evacuation comes exactly two weeks after Britain was rocked by a series of coordinated attacks on the London transit system. Four rush-hour explosions on a trio of underground trains and one double-decker bus left 56 people dead on the morning of July 7th. The attacks have been blamed on four British Muslims.
And now ABC news is reporting a forth incident on a bus....not good.
UPDATE: Here's more information from Metro Networks...
A source at a London underground transport company is reporting that a shooting has taken place. It's unclear whether the incident is tied to the evacuation of three underground stations.
and this...
An explosion reported on a London underground rail train may have been the result of a nail bomb. That's according to a source at a British transport company. The report has not been confirmed.
Metro also says this...
Citing police sources, Sky News in Britain says the explosions today in London were from detonators rather than bombs themselves.
Waiting for some Brit Bloggers to weigh in.
UPDATE: It sounds like they've closed the tubes...
There are reports of an explosion on an East London bus. That report comes after three of London's underground rail stations were evacuated after smoke was seen billowing from at least one train. There are reports that a nail bomb went off at one station. All London underground stations are now closed.
Watching all the news channels, I'm getting the feeling like this was an attack that was either thwarted or didn't come off like they wanted. Not hearing anything about deaths, and only one injury. Fox News is reporting windows from the bus were blown out.
UPDATE: Tim Worstall has more, but this is the latest from Metro Networks...
The BBC reports police told reporters that at Shepherd's Bush station a man had threatened to blow himself up and then ran off.
Certainly not as serious as a 7/7, but still bad.
UPDATE: Some good news...
Britain's Sky News is reporting that authorities in London have given the okay to re-open the vast majority of the city's underground rail system. The entire system had been shut down earlier after an explosion was reported on a train leaving the Warren Street station. As it stands now, only three stations remain closed.
If British police were really worried, they wouldn't be reopening the tubes.
UPDATE: The official police statement...
British authorities say up to four bombs struck London's transit system today. Police Chief Ian Blair says the casualties were light and the bombs appeared to be smaller than the ones that exploded two weeks ago killing 56 people on the transit system. However, he says the incident is "very serious." One witness to today's incidents said a man broke out running, adding quote, "Everyone was screaming for someone to stop him. He ran past me...and he ran out of the station." The witness said the man also left a bag on the train. Passengers were also evacuated from a bus in East London as police cordoned off nearby streets. The bus company said a blast blew out windows, but there were no signs of serious damage.
